Low-Voltage Cables & Wires

Low voltage wires consist of fire alarm cable and sound, alarm and security cable and plenum cable. They come in ratings for residential installations and commercial installations as riser rated or plenum rated.

Sound, Alarm and Security Cables include the following types: CM, CMR, CL2R, CL3R, CMP, CL2P and CL3P

• CM (Communication)is non-riser rated for residential installations.
• CMR (Communication Riser), CL2R (UL Listed CLass 2 Riser) and CL3R (UL Listed CLass 3 Riser) are riser rated and may be installed in the walls rising multiple floors

Fire Alarm Cables include the following types: FPL, FPLR, FPLP

• FPL is rated for non-riser applications, generally residential
• FPLR is riser rated and may be installed in the walls rising multiple floors
• FPLP is plenum rated. The plenum is the air return path of a central air handling system, duct-work or open space over a suspended ceiling
• MP(Multi-Purpose communication), CL2P and CL3P are plenum rated. The plenum is the air return path of a central air handling system, duct-work or open space over a suspended ceiling.

Other types of cable considered low voltage are speaker wire, data cables and audio/video home theater cables.
